Welcome to our Pulse Gives Back Sponsorship Page!

2025 1st Quarter Sponsorship

We are honored to spotlight The Gary Dolphin Inaugural Journalism Scholarship for this quarter's Pulse Gives Back sponsorship. This scholarship money to deserving students was created by PFS client Gary Dolphin of Cedar Rapids, IA - read his story below.

From the moment my folks gave me an RCA red, spin dial transistor radio in the late 1950's, I knew a career in the media is where I wanted to go. That vocation was realized in late 1971 and here we are still plugging along, describing Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball.

For the last decade or so I've pondered forming a trust fund for existing journalism students and those high school pupils considering an occupation in radio, television, print or social media. Journalism has changed and expanded in so many ways with the invention of the internet but it's all fair game where information sources are available.

About a year ago after several conversations with friends Bob Woodward and Mike Fortman of T-H Media Inc. in Dubuque, we started the process. The T-H entity has several foundations funding a variety of needs and with the assistance of the Community Foundation of Dubuque and a fundraising dinner and program in June of 2024, we've raised enough seed money to start awarding scholarships.

Applications, planned for the spring of 2025, are open to any male-female student planning to pursue a career in the media, regardless of field, as long as there's a journalism component and a commitment to see it through!

I'm excited for the next generation of broadcasters and writers. Go Hawks!
