Welcome to our Pulse Gives Back Sponsorship Page!

We are honored to share the story of PFS’ Clients, Brian and Megan Pennington of Channahon, IL.

A happy and strong Parker, undergoing treatment at 6 months old.

In February of 2012, my 4 1/2 month-old daughter developed a rare, life threatening blood disorder called ITP (idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura) and was subsequently treated and hospitalized numerous times over the next year at the Keyser Family Pediatric Cancer Center and Hope Children’s Hospital.

One of her doctors, Dr. Jason Canner, is a pediatric hematologist/oncologist and is also the co-founder of the Cure It Foundation, a nonprofit organization fighting to cure pediatric cancer and providing personalized support for children diagnosed with this terrible illness. During my daughter’s illness, Dr. Canner became a friend and was a huge source of support and was dedicated to helping heal my daughter. My daughter was lucky, and her illness was relatively short-lived, but during that time I got to meet and see many of the children and their families undergoing cancer treatment at the same clinic. My family understood what it was like to have your child facing a life threatening disease, and have your world completely turned upside down. I knew that I was so thankful that my daughter was healthy and wanted to help other families in similar situations. I was extremely grateful to Dr. Canner for his treatment of my daughter and I thought that volunteering for the Cure It Foundation was the perfect way to give back.

A happy and healthy 2 year old Parker, after beating the rare blood disorder she fought the first year of her life.

Fast forward to almost two years later, and Parker is a happy, healthy, thriving 2 year old. I have become actively involved as the Cure It Foundation’s Director of Volunteers and Outreach. The foundation is exploding with new programs and has become a huge presence in the Chicagoland area. Yet, they haven’t lost touch with their main purpose. It is not only to help raise funds for pediatric cancer, but mainly to provide support and care and directly give back on a personal level to the fighters and survivors of pediatric cancer.
